Mass Youth Educational Meeting A Hit With Coaches, Instructors

By Howie Blatt

On this past Saturday morning, the Instructional Program Staff had their Annual Part-Time Instructional Staff & Coach Education Directors Workshop at the Weston High School. We had over 70 folks in attendance!

Mike, Tom, Fred, Lynne, Loy, Renato, and Tara once again demonstrated what an excellent staff Mass Youth Soccer is fortunate to have. I had the chance to talk with lots of folks who have attended this event in the past, as well as an abundance of new faces who were there for the first time. There were even a couple of folks from Rhode Island Youth Soccer. The feedback was consistently positive, with all stating that they were taking something away from the experience that they would either be able to use themselves or pass along to their local membership.

The annual event offers both lecture and field demo formats, providing educational opportunities for those on the local level and continuing education and training to our part-time staff — who, along with our full-time Development Coaches, are out there teaching our courses and clinics. Attendees are offered a wonderful opportunity to see and hear about the many resources that the Mass Youth Soccer Instructional Program currently offers. New programs are constantly being created and developed.

Topics at this year’s event covered the updated materials and format for the "F" and "E" courses, new online course preparation materials, new Coach Instructors Manuals for both the "F" and "E" Courses, the new "Coaching Session Booklet", the totally revised "Coaching" area of the Mass Youth website, and helpful info regarding current coaching philosophies and how local organizations can most benefit from our resources when they use our coach and player development services. Field sessions (with live youth players), led by our full-time coaches, were used to demonstrate the methodologies covered in the written and lecture materials. All in all, another great workshop!

My sincere compliments to the entire Instructional Program Staff, who work tirelessly to provide a broad range of excellent, and cutting-edge, learning opportunities to the kids and coaches of Mass Youth Soccer. GREAT JOB!!!

Also thanks to Andy Page for being there all day to offer his help and support of the staff and the event. He worked with me to make sure the workshop flowed and that things went smoothly throughout the event.
