2010 District Select Program

The District Select Program is a Summer Developmental opportunity for Mass Youth Soccer-affiliated players in Massachusetts. The goal of the program is to provide a "pressure-free" higher level of training and competition than it is normally available to most players during the regular season. No standings are kept, however, at the conclusion of the season there is a two-day competitive tournament for all teams.

Massachusetts is divided into seven Districts. Teams from each District are selected through open public tryouts in early May and compete against each other in a season that runs from July 10 through Aug. 8, 2010. Due to the relatively short season, players who will miss more than one week during that time period or cannot make the Aug. 7-8 weekend tournament are discouraged from participation.

Cost of the program is $140 per player and includes a full uniform. For most teams, the season consists of four midweek evening single games of normal duration and four weekend, double-header, round-robin matches of 60 minutes each. (The U15 and older Boys and/or Girls age groups play weekends only.) Teams hold practices once or twice a week in addition to their game schedule, and no team practices are allowed to interfere with MTOC or the State Cup.

Teams of up to 20 players each will be selected at open tryouts held during May. A minimum of two advertised tryouts may be held for each team, although attendance is only required at one tryout. It is strongly recommended that prospective players attend BOTH tryouts, if possible.

PLAYERS MUST TRY OUT FOR THEIR APPROPRIATE AGE GROUP! No player will be allowed to try out for an older age group. Please note that the District Select program bases birth date eligibility on a CALENDAR YEAR, which is different from MYSA/ECYSA league play. REFER TO the Mass Youth Soccer Site for birth-date ranges and additional information.

All players attending tryouts should bring a ball, plenty of water and wear a WHITE shirt. Tryouts will last for a minimum of 1.5-2 hours — please arrive early to register and warm-up.

Tryout information is available and will be posted on the state website: www.mayouthsoccer.org under the "Programs" section.
