Working Together to Fulfill Our Mission

By Ted Ritchie — President, Massachusetts Youth Soccer

Fellow members of our Massachusetts Soccer Community:

It has long been my personal belief that 80 percent of what goes on around a soccer ball has little to do with soccer — and everything to do with developing the life skills of character, integrity, respect for hard but honorable competition, and graciousness in both victory and defeat.

By the time you receive this, we will be well into our spring 2010 season. I hope that you will take a moment to pause and reflect on what is really the central mission of Massachusetts Youth Soccer: "to promote and encourage high standards of sportsmanship and fair play."

We, as coaches, administrators, players and parents, all lead by example.

As you pause and reflect, ask yourself if you are modeling the values that support our collective mission.

It is my hope that we can continue to strive to make our sidelines filled with positive encouragement and be a healthy learning environment for both the children and adults of Massachusetts.
