Tournament Season Is Here!

By Skip Gorman, Executive Director, Mass Youth Soccer

As we wind down the spring season of play, we look forward to all of the season-ending tournaments throughout the state.

Starting here on May 30 and continuing through June 14 is our State Cup tournament. This is one that moves on to the Regional Cup tournament into Huntington, W.V., July 2-6 and then to the USYS Nationals at Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park later in July.

The USYS Nationals, July 23-27, will feature the best teams from across the country competing for US Youth Soccer’s highest honors. Be sure to check out the links in this issue to volunteer opportunities and be a part of this terrific event!

We will also host the adult association’s big tournament of the year, called the Veterans Cup. This will be held July 7-12. They will have teams from across the country in Under-30 to Under-60 age groups.

Also, on June 26-28, we will be hosting the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions presented by the MEFA U. Fund and Fidelity Investments. This will be the season end-tournament for our 10 competitive travel leagues. This tournament will see over 200 teams from across the state come to the Citizens Bank Fields at Progin Park to try to win the state title for their age, and bragging rights for the next year.

For Mass Youth Soccer, this is the busiest time of year. If you ask anyone who comes and works these tournaments, they will tell you that the days are long, but it is worth it with every child’s smiling face.

I personally would like to thank all of the volunteers that will give up their time to help us run these events! For more information, be sure to visit mayouthsoccer.org.
